Vol. 284 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will be in a position to sanction the proposed new water schemes for Old Market Place and Allman's Terrace, Killarney, County Kerry.

These works constitute a small scheme included in the urban council's programme for 1975 and as such do not require my sanction. I have approved a loan to finance the work.

When was the loan approved?

A few weeks ago.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a water supply scheme has yet been prepared for the village of Ballintogher, County Sligo, which is at present without a water supply.

There is a proposal in my Department for a group water supply scheme to serve 25/30 houses in the Ballintogher area. I understand that the engineer engaged by the group is at present preparing the design and hopes to forward it soon to my Department for examination and approval.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of water schemes in County Offaly in respect of which approval is pending by his Department of loans from the Local Loans Fund for the carrying out of the work.

Two loan applications relating to sanitary services works are before me. One is for the financing of the Rhode water supply scheme for which a tender was sanctioned on 19th June, 1975 and the other is a supplement loan to meet an increase in the estimated cost of the Daingean water supply scheme on which work is in progress. Both loans are being processed in the normal way.

Is there any hope of approval in the near future?

They have come in only recently and they are being processed in the normal way.

They are not too hopeful in Offaly. What does the Minister think?

I would not like to judge anything down there.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a proposal from Galway County Council regarding the acceptance of a tender for Kilronan sewerage scheme and arrangements for financing the work; and, if so, when a decision will be made on these matters.

An inquiry was received in my Department on 25th June from the Galway County Council regarding the acceptance of a tender for the scheme in question. A reply issued on 14th July. I have not yet received any formal proposal for the acceptance of a tender for the scheme or for the raising of a loan to finance the work.

Has the Minister indicated to Galway County Council that he will sanction a loan this year?

That is not the normal procedure. They sent a letter in on 25th June, they got a reply on 14th July and my Department are awaiting their comments on that letter. They have not applied for the raising of a loan to finance it, and until they do so I cannot give sanction.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding Kilavoultra group water supply scheme, Macroom, County Cork.

Formal approval for the design of this scheme was received from Cork County Council on 15th July, 1975 and a total State grant of £2,315 was allocated to the group on 21st July. Work on the scheme may commence at any time.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Carhaue group water supply scheme, Coachford, County Cork.

This is a proposal to serve three cottages by way of an extension from the existing public mains. The group were advised, in December, 1974, to have a design prepared and submitted to my Department. The design has not yet been received.
