The applicant's income for the year ended 31st March, 1970, that is, the financial year preceding the date of application for a grant, was substantially in excess of £900 a year, which was the upper income limit then obtaining for the special rate of grant. Accordingly his application for the special rate had to be rejected.
As he was not deriving his livelihood solely or mainly from the pursuit of agriculture at that time, the rateable valuation of the farm which he has since occupied is not relevant.
