Vol. 285 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Social Welfare Payments.

4.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be reached in the case of a person in County Meath (name supplied) who has been claiming unemployment benefit for almost 12 months and who was in full-time employment for the previous four years.

Entitlement to unemployment benefit on the claim lodged by the person concerned on 29th January, 1975 depended on the number of contributions paid or credited in the 1973-74 contribution year. Only 9 contributions were paid for, and 8 contributions credited to this person in respect of that year and her claim had accordingly to be disallowed. A claim for disability benefit was also disallowed on the same grounds. However, from information supplied by the claimant it would appear that there was employment in respect of which contributions were not paid. This matter was accordingly referred for investigation with a view to securing payment of any contributions due. On the basis of the information obtained to date it has now been decided to treat 31 contributions due in respect of the period 2nd February, 1973 to 3rd March, 1974 as having been paid in respect of her and arrangements are being made to have all benefit due to her paid in the course of the present week.

5.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the money due to a person in County Meath (name supplied) will be paid; and if he is aware that most of this person's employment was with Meath County Council so that there should be no difficulty in tracing his full insurance record.

The weekly rate of benefit payable to the person referred to by the Deputy was reduced in the period from 3rd June, 1974 to 31st May, 1975 by 40p due to a shortage of employment contributions in the year 1973. Following prolonged inquiries it was confirmed by the county council mentioned that the claimant was employed in weeks for which contributions had not been received and a payment representing the adjustment in rate of benefit for the period in question was issued to the claimant on 7th October, 1975.
