Vol. 286 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 5, 12 (Vote 49 Supplementary) and 13 (Resumed). By agreement the Supplementary Health Estimate will be passed without debate. Private Members' Business will be taken from 6.00 to 7.30 p.m., No. 38, by agreement.

In respect of the Order of Business affecting the Estimate for the Department of Health, the Taoiseach said it was agreed that this Supplementary Estimate would be passed without debate. I wanted to add that there is an understanding that the Minister for Health will introduce a token Estimate on which the general hospitals' plan may be debated at an early date. Can the Minister give any indication when that will be?

I have been told within the last few minutes that the Whips are in discussion about a date for debate of a further Supplementary Estimate for £10 on which they can discuss the health services and in particular, as was requested, the general hospitals' plan.

That was the whole purpose of the agreement to pass the Supplementary Estimate the Minister is now seeking without debate.

As we were informed that the Minister wanted the money urgently, we agreed on condition that there would be an early debate on the general hospitals' plan.

It is not an attempt to avoid a debate on it. We spoke to the Fianna Fáil spokesman who kindly agreed that this would be so, in view of the fact that the money was required, I think, tomorrow. Therefore, in order to facilitate the House to debate health generally and the general hospitals' plan, it was agreed that there would be this Supplementary Estimate of £10.

Could the Taoiseach tell me when the Wildlife Bill might appear again? Might we get the Second Stage this session?

Cavan): The Committee Stage is being taken in the Seanad tomorrow.
