Vol. 286 No. 2

Written Answers. - Nuclear Energy Dangers.

265.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will take steps to reassure the public that danger from nuclear energy production will be minimised and to allay any fear they may have about the safety of the environment.

It is one of the particular functions of the Nuclear Energy Board to give expert advice on all aspects of nuclear power. The provision of advice and the preparation of regulations in relation to the safety aspects will be a primary role of the board. The Deputy may rest assured that in regard to any nuclear project that may be undertaken in the future all the necessary steps will be taken as regards the design and operation of the project and the provision of any necessary reassurance to the public.
