Vol. 286 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Borrowing Rate.

48.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that the high rate of other borrowings, which is now £278,925,982, as compared with £14 million for 1974-75, is justified in view of the fact that a loan of £119 million has also been obtained from the European Communities within the past few months; and if he will make a statement on the reason for the extensive borrowing this year.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to questions on 29th October, 1st July and 28th May, 1975 in which I explained that the repayment figure of £254 million on the issues side of the Exchequer Statement should be set off against the other borrowings figure of £279 million.

There has been no loan of £119 million obtained from the European Communities.
