Vol. 286 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estate.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands the names of all persons granted shooting rights on the Lord Ardilaun estate, Cong, County Galway.

(Cavan): I presume the Deputy is referring to an area of some 25,000 acres adjoining Cong forest and formerly part of the Ardilaun estate. The shooting rights over these lands are the subject of a lease to Ashford Castle Ltd.

Have the Department given shooting rights on any lands in that area other than on the Ashford lease?

(Cavan): There is another area known as Cong Forest of 3,600 acres approximately and leases for five years from 1st March, 1974, were made as follows: Ashford Castle, Limited, 523 acres subject to concurrent rights over 268 acres in favour of Lord Oranmore and Browne; Lackafinnagh Gun Club, 12 acres subject to concurrent rights in favour of Lord Oranmore and Browne; Lord Oranmore and Browne, 3,024 acres together with concurrent rights specified above.
