Vol. 286 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Timber Sales.

15.

asked the Minister for Lands the amount and value of timber sold from State forests since 1st January 1975.

(Cavan): Receipts for the sale of timber from the State forests from the 1st January 1975 to the 30th November 1975, the latest date available, amount to £2,140,500. The information sought by the Deputy as to the amount of timber sold is not at present available but is in course of compilation. If the Deputy would repeat that part of his question towards the end of January 1976, I shall then have the figures available for the calendar year 1975.

Does this indicate an increase in the amount of timber or in the prices for it?

(Cavan): It indicates by far the biggest increase ever. I can give the Deputy the figures for the previous years. They are as follows: 1970-71, £1,274,000; 1971-72, £1,180,392; 1972-73, £1,308,568; 1973-74, £1,805,119; and for the first nine months of 1974, £1,800,876.
