Vol. 286 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transportation of Dangerous Substances.

24.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the EEC have prepared a directive on the use of reinforced plastic tanks for the transportation of dangerous substances; and, if so, when the directive will become enforceable in this State.

The Commission submitted to the Council some time ago, a proposal for a directive on reinforced plastic tanks for the transport by road of dangerous substances. The Council subsequently returned the proposal to the Commission for further consideration. There is no indication of when the proposal is likely to be adopted by Council and I cannot, therefore, say when it will come into force here.

This was not a directive?

No, there was what would have become a directive had it been adopted by the Council. It came from the Commission to the Council but the Council sent it back. Therefore, it is not yet a directive.
