Vol. 286 No. 12

Written Answers. - Limerick Factory Employment.

170.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the steps he is taking to honour the written guarantee in relation to employment which he gave to the workers in the Dairy Disposal Board factory at Lans-downe, Limerick in the light of the present proposal of Golden Vale to make most of them redundant.

As the Deputy knows, I have held meetings with public representatives and with representatives of the Golden Vale Society and the trade unions concerned, at which the proposed redundancies at Lansdowne and other Golden Vale premises were discussed. Agreement was reached that there would be direct talks between the society and the unions with a view to seeking a satisfactory solution. I understand that these talks are still in progress.
