On the basis of the unemployment figures over the past five years one could anticipate a seasonal increase over these months. Seasonally adjusted figures provided by the EEC indicate that the increase has moderated in recent months. An improvement in the trend of unemployment can be anticipated by March. The general Government response to present economic difficulties including the employment situation will be outlined in the budget on January 28th.
