Vol. 286 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Armoured Cars.

3.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number and value of armoured cars imported under licence in the past six months by foreign security firms operating in Ireland; and the comparative cost of such armoured cars assembled in Ireland.

Facilities were granted as an exceptional measure to two Irish associates of foreign concerns for the importation of six vehicles on a permanent basis and for two vehicles on a temporary basis. Facilities for permanent importation were granted only after it had been established that suitable vehicles could not, at the time, be provided from home sources. Facilities for temporary importation were given to bridge the period until arrangements could be completed to obtain supplies locally. It is expected that all future supplies will be obtained locally as Irish firms claim to be able now to meet the special requirements of the type of vehicle in question. I have no information as to the value of the imported vehicles.
