Vol. 286 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Measuring Instruments Regulations.

19.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the extent to which the Government have implemented the European Communities' Measuring Instruments Regulations 1973; and how the consumer will be assisted by the implementation of these regulations.

These regulations give effect to four EEC Council directives in the field of weights and measures. The object of the directives was to harmonise the laws of member states relating to measuring instruments. The position of the consumer is not altered as the regulations ensure that effective machinery for ensuring the accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments used in trade will continue to have effect but without imposing any barrier to intra-Community trade.
