Vol. 287 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Services Eligibility.

4.

asked the Minister for Health the action he proposes to take to eliminate the inequities of the present method of determining eligibility for free hospital services.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the situation whereby the eligibility of a non-insured person for hospital services is governed by an income limit of £1,600 whereas the limit which applies to a non-manual insured worker is £2,250 a year, and I would draw his attention to my reply of 18th December, 1975, to a similar question by Deputy Gogan as reported at Volume 286, column 2140, of the Official Report.

Would the Minister accept that the present method is full of anomalies?

I admit that. I propose to make changes as soon as possible.
