The number of persons in receipt of unemployment assistance and unemployment benefit on 1st August, 1975, was, respectively, 64,801 and 49,705.
The corresponding figures for 5th December, 1975, the latest date for which precise figures are available, were 69,606 and 53,377 respectively.
Total payments in the week ended 1st August, 1975, amounted to £766,000 in the case of unemployment assistance and to £691,000 in the case of unemployment benefit. Corresponding payments in the week ended 5th December, 1975, were £874,000 and £770,000 respectively.
