Vol. 287 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Printing Company Purchase.

8.

andMr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of offers made for the purchase of a printing company (name supplied) in the East Wall area of Dublin at present in receivership; and if he will have these offers examined as a matter of urgency in the context of the continued employment of the 280 workers involved and the important issue of the essential Government printing produced by the company in question.

I have no function in relation to the receivership which is being administered in the normal course under the provisions of the Companies Act. I understand, however, that certain offers for the purchase of the firm in question have been made. I have no reason to doubt that all reasonable offers to take over the company as a going concern will be carefully considered in the interests of the continued employment of the work force and the other important issue referred to by the Deputies which factor, as they are doubtless aware, has already been raised by me.

Would the Minister, in relation to the second part of his reply and the important issues involved there, keep an eye on the situation with particular reference to maintaining as many of the 280 workers as possible in any takeover by the people who have made the offers?

The Deputy may be assured that this is a matter with which I am deeply concerned. Indeed some months ago I had discussions with one of his colleagues whose name is to the motion in question.
