Vol. 287 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Coast Erosion.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the severe coast erosion at the Whiting Bay and Ballyquin areas of Ardmore, County Waterford; the steps to be taken for the prevention of such erosion; if EEC grants and /or finance are available for such work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Commissioners of Public Works have received proposals from Waterford County Council for the exception of coast protection works in the areas mentioned. The commissioners are awaiting fulfilment of certain statutory requirements by the council before a preliminary engineering examination may be made to determine if a protection scheme is warranted. In accordance with the provisions of the Coast Protection Act, 1963, these schemes are financed by voted funds and a local authority contribution. EEC grants are not available for this service.
