Vol. 288 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Link Correspondence Courses.

13.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the dissatisfaction of vocational education committees with the operation of the link correspondence courses scheme; and if he will indicate his proposals for the objectives of the scheme to be realised.

These link correspondence courses are administered as a pilot scheme by Education and Training Associates under the direction of a Council for Correspondence Courses on which vocational education committees are represented through the Irish Vocational Education Association.

I am aware that some dissatisfaction with the operation of the scheme has been expressed by vocational education committees and my Department, which are also represented on the council, are arranging for a special meeting of the council to consider the matter and furnish a report.

Is the Minister in a position to let us know the number of returns of papers relating to this scheme which were claimed by students within any specific period?

If the Deputy puts down that specific question, I shall be delighted to answer it.
