asked the Minister for Education if he will reconsider his decision to close Inishtreabhair National School, Béal a' Daingin, County Galway.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway School.
The question of the continuance of the school after 30th June, 1976, is being re-examined in the light of representations which have been made by the manager and the parents.
I am sure others have made representations, too, to the Minister in this matter.
Would you believe— Deputy Molloy?
I should like to express appreciation of the Minister's announced decision to reconsider this matter because it would be a retrograde step to close this school.
Has the Deputy a question?
Is the Minister aware that closure of the school would necessitate daily travel by currach in the open sea to the mainland and that this would be a hardship which I am sure the Minister would not wish to place on four- and five-year-old children? The decision announced by the Department in the first place was wrong and I am glad to note that the Minister now has a change of mind.
