Vol. 288 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo School.

25.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the proposed new grammar school at The Mall, Sligo.

There are no proposals before my Department for the construction of a new grammar school at The Mall, Sligo. There are, however, proposals from the Church of Ireland for the building of a new primary school there.

I am hopeful that authorisation may be given very soon for the acceptance of a tender for the building of a new school in Sligo town. Until the contract has been placed, I am not in a position to make any statement as to the cost of the project or as to when building work will commence.

Will the Minister state if all documentation has been received by his Department from the architects and the people concerned in Sligo?

Since the matter was processed through the Office of Public Works, I would take it for granted that this has been done.

Can the Minister give any indication in relation to when approval will be given with regard to advertising for tenders for this school?

In the near future.

What does that mean? This matter was raised two months ago when I put down a question and the same answer was given——

We cannot have an argument on this matter.

I am making a reasonable request. Does "in the near future" mean next week or next year?

I have said in the near future.

This is leading to argument. I am calling Question No. 26.
