Vol. 288 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Allowances.

35.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a person (details supplied) in County Meath will get an allowance on his pension in respect of his grandchild and a cheque for the arrears.

The person named was originally awarded an increase of pension in respect of his granddaughter on the understanding that the child's father, who resided in England, was not contributing to the child's support. Further inquiries established that, except during periods of unemployment, the father did contribute to the child's support. On the additional information a deciding officer has decided that an increase of pension in respect of the grandchild is not payable and payment of it has been terminated. It is open to the pensioner, to appeal against this decision.

The arrears of pension due in respect of the pensioner, his wife and his own daughter were issued on 17th February, 1976.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when children's allowance will be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Meath in respect of his grandchild.

The children's allowance book was issued on 23rd January, 1976, to the wife of the person concerned as she had been nominated as agent by her son, the child's father, to whom the allowance had been awarded.
