asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of grants for road works allocated to Galway County Council in each year since 1965.

(a) Grants for special improvement purposes include those for National Primary Roads Improvement, National Secondary Roads Improvement, Bridge works and other Special grants.

(b) The system of grants was altered fundamentally in 1973-74 to provide for the categories of special grants set out at (a) above and valid comparison with previous years is not feasible.

(c) Up to 31st March, 1973, the grants to Galway County Council included provision for carrying out road schemes in Galway City. With effect from 1st April, 1973, separate Road Fund grants have been made to Galway Corporation.
