Vol. 288 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Muckross Abbey Burial Ground.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will sanction a proposal from Kerry County Council to extend the Muckross Abbey burial ground in Killarney or provide land for an extension in the National Park, Killarney; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The matter is under consideration at present.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware of the concern and interest of the people in Muckross, Glenflesk and the surrounding areas to have this burial ground extended?

I am well aware of the concern of people in the Muckross area. I should like to point out to the Deputy that the late Deputy Mrs. Crowley made representations in 1943, Deputy John O'Leary made representations to Deputy Gibbons in 1969 and he again made representations to Deputy Lemass in 1972, so the Deputy's party were not able to resolve the position. I would like further to point out that one of the last acts of Deputy Molloy as Minister for Local Government was on 12th March, 1973, to make an order closing the old Muckross graveyard.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I would like to raise Questions Nos. 16 and 17 on the Order Paper of Tuesday 24th February, and also Question No. 4 on today's Order Paper on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

I wonder could I have permission to raise Question No. 6 on the Adjournment?

I will communicate with the Deputy.
