Vol. 288 No. 10

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

78.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that an insurance company (details supplied) have refused to take on any motor insurance this year and that all existing policyholders are being quoted figures three times greater than their last quotations; and if he will state the action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am aware that the insurer in question ceased to renew policies falling due on or after 1st January, 1976. However, I am not aware of any cases where a former policyholder has failed to obtain cover elsewhere or has had to pay premium increases of the order suggested by the Deputy. Neither my Department nor the Department of Local Government have had, since 1st January, 1976, any complaints from former policyholders.
