Vol. 289 No. 4

Written Answers. - Meath Co-operative Committee.

110.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when sanction will be given to the new committee of a co-operative (name supplied) in County Meath; and the reason for the delay.

An amendment to this co-operative's rules must be registered by the Registrar of Friendly Societies, to enable the new committee to be appointed. It has not been possible to have the necessary certificates of registration signed because of the unavoidable absence of the registrar due to illness and his subsequent resignation. The registrar's duties in this respect cannot be delegated and every effort is being made to arrange the early appointment of a new registrar. I might add that the choice of persons is limited by that fact that the registrar must be a barrister of not less than 10 years' standing.
