Vol. 289 No. 5

Written Answers. - Waterford Drainage Scheme.

79.

asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that there is not a health hazard in Waterford city due to the delay in carrying out the proposed main drainage scheme.

The Deputy will be aware that the provision of drainage schemes in Waterford city is a matter for Waterford Corporation and the Minister for Local Government. As Minister for Health, I have no function regarding such schemes. I know that the director of community care and the medical officer of health have advised the corporation that the existing drainage situation is unsatisfactory from the public health point of view. I have communicated with my colleague the Minister for Local Government and I understand from him that there will be no avoidable delay in commencing the main drainage scheme.
