Vol. 289 No. 5

Written Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Claims.

83.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that a number of unemployment benefit recipients (details supplied) in County Meath were deprived of benefit last week due to the delay of the postal services in the delivery of their claims from the Garda stations to Trim and Edenderry employment exchanges; and if he will try to improve the system as it is causing hardship to families in the south Meath and northwest Kildare areas.

I regret the delays in payment which occurred in these cases which were due to the late delivery of certified evidence of unemployment to the local offices in respect of the persons concerned, apparently as a result of local postal arrangements. My Department are taking the matter up with the postal authorities with a view to the avoidance of such delays in future.
