Vol. 289 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Social Welfare Office.

23.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the strong public resentment at the closure of the social welfare office in Mitchelstown, County Cork; and if he will take steps to have the service restored to the people there as quickly as possible.

When the local agent at Mitchelstown resigned recently arrangements were made for the discharge of the agency duties from headquarters in Dublin. Similar arrangements have been made since 1958 in other areas as vacancies have occurred in agency posts and these arrangements have, in general, proved satisfactory. I am not aware of any public resentment following the closure of the Mitchelstown agency which, as I have indicated, was due to the resignation of the local agent.
