NOTES:

1. Apart from the fact indicated in Note 4 below, it is not appropriate to relate the figures in column 2 with those in column 3 above. Of the total shown in column 2 as collected in motor taxation, approximately 33? per cent was retained by the Exchequer by virtue of the Finance Acts, 1966, 1970 and 1973, while there was a voted contribution of £5.356 million to the Road Fund in 1975.

2. The figures for motor taxation collected, including those for Galway, are the latest available.

3. The amount of motor taxation collected shows in relation to Dublin the total collection for the entire Dublin area, city and county including Dún Laoghaire, and likewise in relation to Cork the total collection for the entire Cork area, city and county.

Dublin Corporation is the licensing authority for the Dublin area and Cork County Council is the licensing authority for the Cork area, in Cork the motor taxation offices in the city and county were amalgamated during 1974 and similarly the Dublin city and county offices were amalgamated some years ago.

In relation to Limerick and Waterford the amounts shown as collected cover the collections in each case in both the corporation and county council taxation offices.

4. In addition to the amount of Road Fund grants shown in column 3 above, a sum of approximately £679,000 will be allocated for approved works on bridges, and so on.

5. The figures in column 3 above show, in the case of each county, the total allocated in Road Fund grants to all the road authorities in the county. Details for individual authorities were given in reply to Question No. 20 on 9th March. The up-to-date figure for the total allocated to Kerry County Council is £639,452.
