Vol. 289 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Airstrip.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the position regarding the proposed airstrip for Dungloe, County Donegal.

No application has been made for the licensing of an airstrip at Dungloe.

Does this mean there is no basis for the suggestions that have been made around there that there is an airstrip in the offing?

I do not know anything about the suggestions to which the Deputy refers. My function in this is technical. I merely advise on the suitability of a given site for an airstrip. If there are people considering the establishment of an airstrip there, I would not know about it until they had made a final decision and come to my Department for a licence for that airstrip.

Can I take it that no information whatever has yet come from that area in respect of that proposal, despite the fact that it is something that has been mooted and promised by a colleague in Government?

There was an approach by an individual to the Department to know what formalities had to be gone through if an airstrip was to be established. He was given that information but has not made a formal application yet.

Who did the Minister say came?

An individual came.

An individual, not connected with Government?

No, it is a private airstrip.
