Vol. 289 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal School.

9.

asked the Minister for Education when his Department propose to fulfil their undertaking to Raphoe Comprehensive School, County Donegal, and erect a gymnasium and changing rooms.

The proposed sports hall for Raphoe was intended to serve the comprehensive school, the vocational school and the local community. It has not, however, been found possible to reach local agreement on the siting of the hall and, accordingly, plans for its erection could not proceed.

In what regard has it been impossible to find agreement, in other words, who is in disagreement?

Agreement has not been forthcoming from the interests involved, which are principally the comprehensive school authorities and the vocational education committee.

Is it one or other of these authorities who is at fault at the moment?

Since I am not aware of which, if any, of the parties is at fault here, I do not wish to pronounce upon it.

Would the Minister endeavour to find out who is at fault and take steps to remedy the situation because this facility is much needed and has been promised for a long time?

I have already indicated to the interests that they should come to local agreement and then inform me.
