Vol. 289 No. 9

Written Answers. - Fish Lorry Search.

23.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he has taken up with the British Government the behaviour of the British army in their search and delay of a fish lorry proceeding from Greencastle, County Donegal to the Dublin fish market last week; and, if so, the satisfaction he has got from them.

On the night of 24th March a lorry bearing a consignment of 236 boxes of fish, sent by the Greencastle Fishermen's Co-operative to the Dublin fish market, was stopped in Derry and searched by the British army. The lorry was unable to leave Derry for approximately eight hours, as a result of which the consignment missed the market and had to be disposed of at a fraction of its value. The concern of the Irish authorities at this occurrence has been expressed to the British authorities. Their reaction is awaited.
