Vol. 290 No. 1

Written Answers. - Laois-Offaly Social Welfare Benefits.

66.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why disability and pay-related benefit has not yet been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Laois who has been claiming since 10th March, 1976.

The person named by the Deputy submitted medical certificates in respect of incapacity for work from 11th March, 1976. As no contributions had been received since 1972 there was no entitlement to disability benefit and on being so notified the claimant furnished details of employment for which contributions had not been paid. My Department secured payment of the contributions outstanding and the amount of disability due on the medical certificates received has been issued.

The amount of any pay-related benefit due could not be determined until the claimant's income tax serial number had been received. This was received on 23rd April, 1976, and the claimant's entitlement is now being determined.

67.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why the old age non-contributory pension of a person (name supplied) in County Offaly has not been increased from £4.75 to £10.25.

It was decided by an appeals officer that on the basis of means derived from a holding the person concerned is entitled only to a partial pension. The appeals officer considered further evidence subsequently submitted by the person's solicitor but found no grounds for revising his decision.
