Vol. 290 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Attendance Officers.

4.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a reappraisal of the authority of school attendance officers with a view to extending their responsibility to allow jurisdiction over children who are attending schools within the Dublin county area, particularly the Ballymun and Tallaght areas where children in corporation housing estates are attending schools not within the city boundary; and if he will recommend an increase in the number of school attendance officers to cater for this eventuality.

The statutory position is that the jurisdiction of the school attendance committees is limited to the area of the Dublin County Borough. The enforcing authority in the County Dublin area are the Garda Síochána.
