Vol. 290 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tipperary Town Industry.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the progress that has been made to have an industry established in Tipperary town.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that a new project by Tampax Ltd., started production in the town earlier this year and has an employment potential of 250 jobs at full production. Negotiations are at present proceeding between the authority and two industrial promoters with a view to the establishment of two projects in the town.

The authority are conscious of the need to secure a substantial male employing industry for the town and have been giving priority to the town in their industrial promotion activities with this in view. In the past 12 months nine industrialists have visited the town on IDA itineraries and the facilities in the town, including the authority's advance factory and industrial site, have been brought to the attention of numerous industrialists.
