Vol. 290 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing in Irish Territorial Waters.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if permission for experimental fishing in Irish territorial waters has been granted to non-nationals; the number of boats involved; and the type of fishing proposed.

Four Isle of Man boats were permitted to carry out experimental fishing for escallops within the 12-mile exclusive fishery limits of the State off County Donegal from 6th August to 30th November, 1975. The results of this experiment are being circulated by my Department to the local fishery interests. This is the only recent case in which permission was granted to non-nationals to engage in experimental fishing within the limits.

Is there any truth in the suggestion that some trawlers from Holland have been allowed to fish in territorial waters?

Not within the 12-mile limit. They have been refused.

Therefore there was no permission granted to anybody?

I have said so.
