Vol. 290 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - TV Licence Scheme.

12.

asked the Minister for Health, if he has received a petition with 20,000 signatures attached to it requesting the extension of the free television licence scheme to disabled persons who are in receipt of a disabled person's allowance; and, if so, whether he proposes to accede to this request.

I have received the petition referred to by the Deputy. I regret that I am not in a position to accede to the request.

I would ask the Minister to give serious consideration to this suggestion because television is an important amenity to those who are disabled.

My sentiments do not differ from those of the Deputy but in present circumstances I could not accede to the request.
