Vol. 290 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Estate.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the Clonkeen estate, Deansgrange, Blackrock, County Dublin has not yet been taken in charge; and if he will state when the matter will be finalised.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to a similar question in March, 1975, the taking in charge of housing estates is a matter for the local authority concerned, in this instance Dublin County Council. I have made inquiries from the council and I understand that the outstanding works which must be carried out by the developer before the council can take the estate in charge relate mainly to sanitary services with some works outstanding on roads and footpaths. A number of meetings have been held with the developer's architect and builder. At a meeting last week, agreement was reached on the outstanding sanitary services works which are to be put in hand as soon as possible. Further meetings will be held shortly to agree on other outstanding works.

I am grateful to the Minister for taking the trouble to make these inquiries. Is the Minister aware that this is symptomatic of quite a number of estates in urban areas generally? Am I to take it that the new planning Bill will cure this particular problem once and for all?

I hope it will. I am aware that it has happened in many estates all over the country and I hope that the provisions of the planning Bill will deal with it.

I can take it then that progress is being made and that the matter will come to finality in the not too distant future?

My information is that it is proposed to put in hand one portion of the matter under dispute immediately and the other matters will be settled within the next week or so.

When does the Minister expect that the new planning Bill will be taken in the Seanad?

The Deputy is raising a separate matter.

I am ready to go in. I hope it will be in the Seanad when they have time to deal with it which I hope will be very quickly.
