Vol. 290 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Clerical Officer Examination.

3.

asked the Minister for the Public Service why the date for the holding of the confined clerical officer examination for postmen has been brought forward this year.

I am informed by the Civil Service Commissioners that the written examination in 1976 for appointment as clerical officer, confined to departmental grades in the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, was held on 25th March compared with 24th April in 1975.

The date was brought forward so that the examination could be held in conjunction with a similar one confined to certain other categories of civil servant and being held on 25th March.

The syllabus for both examinations was the same and it was more economical and more convenient, as well as ensuring uniformity of standards, for both to be held simultaneously.

The date for the 1976 Posts and Telegraphs competition was brought to the notice of the staff association primarily concerned on 20th June, 1975, and an appropriate notice appeared in Iris an Phoist on 9th July, 1975. No objections to the date were received.
