asked the Taoiseach the average time which an unemployed person remains on the register of unemployment.

While information on completed spells on the live register is not available, quarterly returns are complied which classify persons on the live register according to duration of continuous registration categories on a particular date. The most recent information available relates to 28th November, 1975, and the percentage distribution of the 108,333 persons on the live register on that date was as follows:

asked the Taoiseach the percentages of unemployed people by age.

The weekly live register statement contains a broad classification by age distinguishing those under 18 years and those aged 65 years and over. Of the total of 114,246 persons on the live register on 14th May, 1976, 975—0.9 per cent—were under 18 years while 2,679—2.3 per cent—were 65 years or more.

In September each year additional data are collected on the age of males who reside in incorporated towns. The most recent figures relate to 26th September, 1975 and the percentage distribution by age groups of the 39,980 males on the live register residing in these towns on that date was as follows:
