Vol. 291 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Harbour Works.

18.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if there are any applications before him for harbour works orders in the Dublin area; and, if so, if he will give particulars.

On 9th October, 1972, the Dublin Port and Docks Board applied for a harbour works order to authorise them to construct embankments to reclaim about 200 acres south of the South Wall and to the east and south of the Poolbeg generating station to provide a site for a proposed oil refinery and tank farm. The House was informed on 26th October, 1972, in reply to Dáil questions, that no action on the making of a harbour works order would be taken until after a decision had been taken on the relevant planning application. The Dublin Port and Docks Board were similarly advised on 30th October, 1972. On 11th September, 1974, the board amended their application for a harbour works order to permit reclamation of 157 acres to be used exclusively for oil storage purposes—no part of the proposed refinery itself would be located within this area. The area of 157 acres is part of the area of 200 acres.

The board applied in 1975 for a harbour works order to carry out port development works on the south side of the River Liffey, consisting of the construction of one quay, a number of embankments and the reclamation of two areas of 13.2 hectares and 2.9 hectares respectively. These applications have been left in abeyance by agreement with the board.

The board also applied in 1975 for a harbour works order to authorise them to carry out port development works on the north side of the River Liffey. On 8th March, 1976, the board amended this application and the works to be covered by the order consist essentially of the construction of one quay, a number of embankments and the reclamation of two areas of approximately 6.27 hectares and 2.24 hectares, respectively. This application is being processed.

On 5th April, 1976, the board applied for a harbour works order for the construction of a slipway, embankments and reclamation of approximately 0.9 hectares at the North Bull Wall. This application has been deferred by the board.
