Vol. 291 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Estate.

46.

asked the Minister for Lands why an estate (details supplied) in County Kerry was let in grazing privately for a number of years by the Land Commissions; and, in view of the many local interests, why it was not advertised for letting by public auction as is usual.

(Cavan): The holding referred to comprises some 30 acres of scattered badlyfenced land and an undivided share.

In connection with the letting of the lands, the Land Commission considered it would be uneconomic to put the fences into the necessary state of repair to eliminate the danger of trespass. In the circumstances the lands were not advertised for letting by public auction but private seasonal lettings were made to local adjoining land holders.

I understand that proposals for the disposal of the lands referred to will be formulated shortly.

Question No. 47 postponed.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
