Vol. 291 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchasing Power of £100.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the purchasing power of £100 in mid-May, 1976, reckoning mid-February, 1973 as the base.

It is estimated on the basis of the Consumer Price Index numbers that £173.26 would be required at mid-May, 1976 to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as £100 would have purchased at midFebruary, 1973.

Did I hear the Parliamentary Secretary say £173.26? If this is correct, could he inform me when the Government intend to stabilise prices?

That is a matter of policy.

It is a question people want to have answered now.
