Vol. 291 No. 15

Written Answers. - Dr. Yann Fouéré Case.

41.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has made representations to the French Government to secure an immediate conclusion to the case of Dr. Yann Fouéré; and whether he has supported Dr. Fouéré's request to be allowed to return to the west of Ireland.

As I have previously explained the position is that Dr. Fouéré is a French citizen and as such is subject to French law while he is in France. His naturalisation as an Irish citizen does not affect that position. In those circumstances I am prevented from making any formal representations on his behalf to the French authorities though I have mentioned to them informally the concern of many Irish people that this case be concluded as speedily as possible.
