Vol. 291 No. 15

Written Answers. - Animal Feedstuffs.

60.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce how recent increases in the price of animal feedstuffs were justified; and if he will now take steps to have some further control on such increases.

61.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that increases have taken place in the price of animal feedstuffs; and if he will have the matter investigated as these increases seem unjustified.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to take Questions Nos. 60 and 61 together.

The prices charged for animal feedstuffs are subject to a system of monitoring by my Department. I am aware of the recent price increases which I understand were introduced by compounders to compensate them for increases which they incurred mainly in ingredient costs. I have already had a detailed investigation of the increases put in hands to establish whether they were fully justified. Any further action which I might take would depend on the outcome of this investigation.
