Vol. 293 No. 7

Written Answers. - AnCO Centres.

96.

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money it is proposed to spend on the AnCO centre in Ballina, County Mayo; the improvements for which this expenditure is intended; when work will begin; and if the views of the deputation that met him on this matter have been taken into consideration.

97.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has examined the possibility of having the AnCO centre established on a larger premises in order to cope with the numbers awaiting training at Ballina, County Mayo.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 96 and 97 together.

The provision of training facilities is a matter for the council of AnCO whose responsibility in the matter is enshrined in the Industrial Training Act. I am informed by AnCO that it does not see the need for increasing the training capacity in Ballina and that it is not its intention, therefore, to establish a larger centre in the town.

AnCO is currently investigating how best to improve the training centre in Ballina, but no final decision has yet been taken on how this improvement will be effected. The views of the deputation which I met recently have been communicated to AnCO and will be taken into consideration by AnCO in reaching a decision in the matter.
