Vol. 294 No. 2

Written Answers. - Optical Benefit Claim.

73.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when credit will be granted to a person (name supplied) in County Meath, who was working during 1975, for his 1975 social welfare insurance card so that he can avail himself of ophthalmic services.

A claim for benefit under my Department's optical benefit scheme was received from the person in question on 29th October, 1976. The claim was disallowed as the claimant did not fulfil the statutory condition which required him to have, at least, 26 employment contributions paid or credited on his behalf in the 1975 contribution year. However, following information supplied by the claimant my Department confirmed with his employer the duration of his employment in 1975 and credited him with employment contributions for this period.

As a result, the claim for optical benefit has already been authorised and the claimant notified accordingly.
