Vol. 294 No. 4

Written Answers. - Underweight Bread.

116.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is considering amending legislation to provide that a bakery which manufactures underweight bread is legally responsible and not the retailer as at present.

I recently received representations from the retail trade that steps should be taken to amend existing legislation to provide that when underweight bread is sold the baker and not the retailer should be legally responsible.

I am having the matter considered in the context of a general examination of the question of bread weight which is being carried out by the National Prices Commission.
