Vol. 294 No. 6

Written Answers. - Offaly River Drainage.

60.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange to have a machine put on the River Brosna between Ferbane and Belmont, County Offaly, in order to clean it as it is in a serious condition with silt and weeds and a number of cattle have drowned in the river as a result of this.

Since 1957 when the Brosna drainage scheme was completed the function of the Commissioners of Public Works is confined to keeping the drainage channels clear for drainage purposes. The channel referred to by the Deputy is functioning adequately as a drainage channel and does not require cleaning at present.
