Vol. 294 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Transport Service.

28.

asked the Minister for Education why school transport was not provided for a person in the Manor Kilbride area, County Wicklow (details supplied).

The child in question is under ten years of age and resides just over two miles from the nearest school. He is, therefore, eligible for free transport and can be conveyed to Manor Kilbride national school from the nearest pick-up point to his home on the existing route of the transport service to that school. I understand that the child has not availed himself of that facility because his parents consider that the pick-up point is too far from home. The cost of an extension of the route to bring the service nearer to his home would not be warranted.
